Westphalia - Dishes of our childhood
Westphalia - Dishes of our childhood
Our mothers and grandmothers knew how to prepare a wonderfully fragrant and delicious meal that would satisfy everyone, be healthy, and inexpensive. It was usually freshly cooked, and the memory of it still makes many a mouth water. "Food and drink keep body and soul together" is a true folk saying. From Winterberg to Ibbenbüren, from Paderborn to Münster, people fondly recalled the dishes of their childhood and vividly shared with the author the stories they associate with that time. We can look forward to hearing about the special events surrounding meals of beer soup, beef goulash, or sauerbraten. Whether it was blind fish or turnip greens, potato salad or dumpling pot, all the stories about favorite dishes and childhood memories are simply delightful! Many people have collectively laid the foundation for a kind of everyday history. They recount Saturday cleaning rituals, school days, gardening and animal husbandry, or describe the rapid developments in the grocery retail sector. In Westphalia, we used to say: "What a farmer doesn't know, he won't eat!" That's no longer true, because our eating habits are constantly changing, and the culinary delights of the Mediterranean, for example, are tantalizing our taste buds. French cuisine, French fries, and spaghetti Bolognese have long been popular. Of course, the recipes for these dishes and their stories are also included in the book.
