Münster - Yesterday and Today
Münster - Yesterday and Today
Anyone seeing Münster's Prinzipalmarkt, its "parlor," today would find it hard to believe that the charming gabled houses are not historic, but were built after the Second World War. The bombing raids in the city center, at the cathedral, the castle, and many of the magnificent aristocratic residences, have changed the face of the old city – but the repeatedly praised, bold decisions of the post-war planners prevented the Westphalian metropolis from becoming characterless. In this sense, modern elements have also grown in recent decades, oriented towards the standards of a livable city. Our photo walk between yesterday and today, between past and present, invites you to form your own impression of precisely this "most livable city in the world," as Münster has been entitled to call itself since October 2004, when it became the first major German city to win this title at the LivCom Award. Much of the old has passed, the new has taken its place – but today's Münster residents are just as proud of their city as the generations before them. Our comparisons aim to show why this is the case.
